WELCOME TO THE KARLIN FAMILY HOME PAGE!

We wish we had more time to devote to our family's web age but we're all too busy doing productive things and then sleeping them off.

But from time to time, something useful/interesting/relevant comes up and a posting will appear.  In 2001, Laura graduated from Beverly Hills High School as a National Merit Scholar finalist and a four-year  member of the Beverly Hills High School Advanced Dance Company.  She graduated summa cum laude from Cornell University in 2005 after having spent her junior year (2003-2004) at the London School of Economics, studying sociology and earning first class honors.  She spent  a year in London establishing herself as a choreographer but is now back in Los Angeles.

Laura formed her own modern dance company, Invertigo Dance Theatre, which had its first show "Leap Year Waltzes, etc." on February 29 and March 1 and 2, 2008 at the Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica and has subsequently performed at the LA Musical Salon at the Regency Club, the Independent Shakespeare Company and a full length evening in September at the Stella Adler Theatre called, in honor of the election season, "Flip Flops & Platforms".  Here we are in 2017, Invertigo's 10th year and it has become one of LA's leading dance companies, with a terrific set of engagement programs that go along with all of its performance endeavors.

Toby graduated from Beverly in June 2003.  In his first two years, he swam and played water polo on the varsity teams and soccer on the frosh-soph team for a season.  He also danced for a season in the Advance Dance Company.  Throughout, he played in the band (alto sax).  He is also an avid drummer.   He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston in May 2007.  Toby spent time in a band at Berklee called Captain Pablo which released its one and only fabulous album (check out the song about the cannibal, Keep the River on Your Right). Toby is playing and teaching and recording in Los Angeles.

Here is a copy of Michael's resume.  He is a partner in Karlin & Peebles, LLP, which concentrates on international tax and business transactions, international estate planning and taxation of e-business.   His free time is devoted to serving in multiple roles at the regional, Area and National levels for the American Youth Soccer Organization and especially as coach, referee, webmaster, scheduler, coach administrator and instructor for AYSO Region 76; he also is the webmaster for the Docent Council (see below) and for other nonprofit organizations. And since 2010, he has been learning Japanese and has traveled to Japan with Fiona several times.

For the year beginning May 2006, Fiona served as the chair of the Docent Council at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She continues to tour both school programs and as a public tour docent, specializing in Pre-Columbian civilization.   In 2009, she is the co-chair of training for new docents at the museum - they have to go through a rigorous one-year program.  She is a keen photographer.  Here is a page of her pictures taken for Laura with her Canon G2 in 2002.

Our mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, Miriam Henderson, passed away on October 9, 2003.  We put together a series of web pages to honor Miriam's memory and we hope that you will enjoy this tribute to a wonderful and remarkable person.
